ان سعة الخزن في الاجهزة الحديثة تزداد مع مرور الزمن. ان تغيير التقنيات التي يتم فيها تسجيل البيانات، والتي هي اساسها الصفر والواحد، يزيد من امكانية زيادة المساحة للذاكرة وسعة الخزن. من اهم التقنيات هي الاعتماد على تيار البرم للالكترون والذي يستخدم طاقة تكاد تكون معدومة قياسا بالطرق القديمة. هذه التقنية تستخدم في اجهزة (همر) الحديثة بالاعتماد على الليزر. وبالتالي تكون سرعة تسجيل البيانات وسعة الخزن اعلى بكثير.
