العمل البحثي لتطوير علاج للسرطان لتقليل معاناة المرضى هو الدافع الرئيسي للعمل في مجال بحوث السرطان
Special interest in establishing new tumor models from Iraqi patients or new animal models, in 2003 Establishing transplantable tumor cell line in immunocompetence mice which named AM3 (Ahmed Majeed 2003) / which is in use for researches in Iraqi center for cancer and medical genetic research, more than 70 PhD students, MSc student and researchers used this line in their researches, this cell line is patented. In 2003 Establishing a new tumor cell line (Mouse mammary adenocarcinoma) which named AMN3 (Ahmed Mohammed Nahi) / which is in use for researches in Iraqi center for cancer and medical genetic research, more than 100+ PhD student, MSc student and researchers used it until now. in 2006 establishing Iraqi human tumor cell line (Glioblastoma cell line), which now in use for cancer research in ICCMGR and many researcher 50+ used this cell line as a human cancer cell model. Also in 2006 establishing embryonated cell line from rats, which used extensively at ICCMGR for toxicity studies by hundreds of researches. In 2013 establishing breast cancer cell line from Iraqi patients and the cell line AMJ13 published. In 2002 – present the supervisor of cell banking of ICCMGR, which include many cell lines and provide services to researchers for cancer researches.
-During the period of 2001- present the viro-genetherapy program has been developed using Newcastle Disease virus, measles virus and good in vitro and in vivo results has been obtained. In 2005 present starting experimental cancer photodynamic therapy using HeNe laser, with series of researches.
- Supervising carcinogenesis research program with series of research on different carcinogenic agents, and studying the pathological lesion as well as carcinogenic effects with long term administration. In 2004 – 2010 heading brain tumor research team with cooperation with neurosurgery hospital, which include studying the pathology, cytogenetic, brain tumor cell culture and molecular genetic of Iraqi brain tumors.
- On going researches on Stem cells as therapy for neuropathies with cooperation of neuroscience hospital. And Stem cells to chondrocytes as cartilages replacement.
- 2011 developing cancer virotherapies ,TNF-a, IFNg and IL-18 genes cloning and inserting in recombinant oncolytic Measles virus at S.J Russel Lab at mayo clinic and rescuing several new viruses for cancer treatment and the work progressing.
- Photosensitizing oncolytic measles virus for photodynamic therapy, Mayo Clinic - Rochester, Molecular medicine, Rochester, USA
The project is to generate a recombinant measles virus for photodynamic therapy where the virus will express ALA synthase for cancer treatment.
